Known as the "Riviera of Azaleas", the gardens
along this strech of the western bank explode
into a riot of colour every spring. Its unique
position means azaleas and flowers in general
its pride and visiting card. Visitors come from
all over the world to admire the blooms, to the
nursery gardens in the area, but above all to
the vast parks, ranging from the extremely famous
Villa Carlotta to Villa Collina (used as a summer
residence by Chancellor Adenauer), Villa Maria
"Parco dei Faggi", "Parco delle Betulle".
The area of the town closest to the lake, best
known as Cadenabbia, has a pleintful supply of
hotels and tourist structures. From here, you
can admire the whole of the central lake. But
for a truly unforgettable view, do not miss the
walk to the natural oasis of S.Martino where you
can visit the small church standing in a splendid
meadow under the steep cliffs of Sasso S.Martino.
The panorama embraces the whole lake and the mountains
on the opposite side.
