Lenno is rather different from the other lakeside
towns stretched out along the water's edge, because
it is almost hidden by a deep inlet between the
promontory of Levedo and the headland of Portezza.
From here you can enjoy a unique view of the lake
and Bellagio, but if you want to explore one of
the most attractive point on the western shore,
you can take a short boat-trip along the promontory,
land at the far end and be entranced by the park
of Villa Balbianello.
This "attractive retreat" was created by Cardinal
Durini in the 18th century and is still one of
the most beautiful and romantic villas on the
lake. It is now owned by the FAI and is open to
visitors. If you prefer older sights, you can
visit the deanery of S.Stefano and the Romanesque
Batistery the church of S.Andrea (11th cent.),
the Monastery of Acquafredda (12th cent.), the
Santuario del Soccorso and the Sacred Mount. |
